It happened around 10 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17 westbound in East Quogue at Exit 64.
A 2004 Mercedes Benz was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes when the driver crashed head-on into a 2008 Toyota Camry, according to police.
Michelle Navas, 28, of Hicksville, the driver of the Camry, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Mercedes, whose name is being withheld pending notification of family members, was pronounced dead at Peconic Bay Medical Center.
Both lanes were closed for approximately eight hours during the accident investigation.
